Inner Source Course: 400 years of Rosycross

Who are the Rosicrucians?
What occupies them?
What is it that has inspired the Rosicrucians?
Throughout the last few centuries, have they been seized by an idea?
A philosophy?
A religious movement?
A way of life?
You could say that the central Rosicrucian thought, having lost none of its power and validity, is an appeal to all human beings: ‘…Man, do ultimately understand your own nobility and worth, and why you are called microcosm, and how far your knowledge of Nature extends.’

Nobleness and Worth represent the greatness to which every human being is called by virtue of their composition and origin – how they are able to transform into the God-beings they essentially are. The above quote is a fragment from a detailed and seemingly mysterious manifesto from a largely unknown brotherhood. But some study shows us a surprising track in time of people who were linked with the Rosycross to a greater or lesser extent, such as scientists, writers, artists, doctors, philosophers and still others who were less in the public eye, people in society.

The name Rosycross can be traced back to the Brothers of the Rosycross who lived in Germany around 1614. However, Rosycross is not a name of a group or a movement, rather it refers to the characteristics of human beings who are looking for that great mystery with which they are confronted: to discover why they are called microcosm, to discover the connection between the small and the large, between the above and the below, between the inside and the outside …

These questions can be traced back in time, for example to ancient Egypt and the Hermetic wisdom. In the other direction along the timeline, right up until today, there are Rosicrucians who, after “exploring the nature and how far the knowledge of man extends in it,” have proceeded to apply the laws, the magic and the art that they have learned and recognized. Rosicrucians are therefore often associated with alchemists, engaged in manufacturing the mysterious philosopher’s stone or in the making of gold.

The magic of the Rosycross, however, lies on an entirely different plane. Although based on knowledge of human beings – our relationship with nature, our place in creation and our relationship to the source of all this, the All-Father-Mother or God – this magic eventually deals with transformation: transformation of the lower into the higher, the earthly being into the microcosmic being, and living in the all-manifestation in a lively connection between human being and God.

The meaning behind the term Rosycross is attaching the rose to the cross. It is revealing the rose, the higher essence which lies hidden in the human being, in our own lives. It is the process of transformation. Therefore, anyone who does this may be called a Rosicrucian.

The Brotherhood of the Rosycross can be seen both as the reporters and also as living examples of the transformation they have practiced, studied and described in detail in that seemingly incomprehensible or symbolic language. They made a strong appeal to mankind to arrive at knowing their own being and aim. Written down in the Fama Fraternitatis, the Fame or Call of the Rosicrucian Brotherhood, and in the story The Alchemical Wedding of Christian Rosycross, we see the formula, the description of a human being who has started to work on the great transformation, the alchemical wedding.

In this Inner Source course we want to study this together, and deal with questions like:
– What is so special about the message of the Rosicrucians?
– On what do they base their teachings?
– What is the process of becoming a Rosicrucian?
– What happened after the call of the Brothers appeared in 1614?
– How did the thread evolve from then until today?
– And, could it be that I actually am a ‘Rosicrucian’ myself?
